Little Gods Page Breakdown

Issue 1 - Page 1

Here’s the work-in-progress breakdowns of page 1.

Little Gods. Issue 1, page 1. Layout.

This layout is pretty typical of my process. I zoom out on my monitor and draw with a large pencil point to prevent myself from focusing on detail.

Not being too creative here, I centered my too main characters in standard rectangular panels.

As I went to pencil and add more detail to my initial layout, I kept the standard panel format, but shifted it around to make panel 3 and 4 taller so this impact of the punch to Matthias more dramatic.

The inking process was straight forward. I had worked out most all the details I wanted to include while penciling, which only left me with the hatching and textures to work out in the background.

The time period that the story takes place (which will become more apparent as the story continues) is during the silver age of comic, which usually keep interior colors flat, printed on newsprint, with any shading done with dot-matrix printing. I thought it would be a nice color my comic in that style, but with something of an enhanced shading because of the flexibility of digital coloring these days.
