An Inhuman Task
This commission is a digital painting I completed for a client and the process it followed:
First, of course, I sketched it on my Canson Universal Sketch Pad. Every now and then, I try a new sketch pad because there’s some deal or discount, which I usually regret. I like the spiraled side and the weight of the page, 65 lb., is general heavier than comparable sketchbooks. I used blue pencil, 2H, and HB pencils.
Next, after getting my client’s approval, I scanned it into Photoshop CS3, and laid down my starting colors in order to get a sense of harmony. And, yes, that’s Reese Witherspoon. And, no, I had no idea she done something until I found this photo on Google search until then. I’m using it as a reference as well as some other actress (I assume) to help me accurately visualize Crystal’s hair. Hair is rough. I’m not ashamed to look for help.
And after painting, erasing, painting again, cursing myself and the invisible muse, erasing and painting again, I finish. I left it overnight, looked at it in the morning again, and messed with the contrast. And, wala!
Overall, I’m very happy with it. Indeed, I see areas to improve, but generally there’s a lot of good there. (That is a watermark over the top of it.)
Now, if you like this painting or any other work you see here, contact me. I have very reasonable commission prices and I’m willing to work within your budget.
